Motivation is believing in something unrealistic to help you achieve something realistic.
You being here on Earth is like you being on another planet in another galaxy all by yourself, your only means of guidance, sustenance, and help is from someone on a radio. That someone is God, ask Him for help and He will provide you.
Regular pain and relaxation make you thankful for what you have, this is where a proper workout in the gym comes in. You endure the pain for a short time during which your world seems lost, but once you are done, you feel relaxed and that's where you feel grateful for what you have. This moment is the key to having a firm belief, because at this moment all the believers feel close to God.
And a continuous feel of this moment is required to maintain a constant relationship to God. This moment can not only be experienced through a tough physical test, where you are pushing your self not only to your limits but a tad bit over too, but also when you go through a experience where you see the harsh reality of this world on a regular basis.
Seeing someone living in poor conditions helps us reflect on our stance in life, where we stand, how we behave, how grateful we are. For some this sense comes instantly when they see someone less fortunate than them, while for others who find it hard to empathize a regular visit to a homeless shelter would definitely wear down their hardhearted defenses.
So experiencing pain or even witnessing it on a regular basis can bring a person to keep in touch with their inner human self, the self that's connected to God.
Sad to say that in our current world, experiencing pain is avoided, witnessing it is considered something incredibly brave. We seek to live a comfortable pain free life that further draws us away from our inner humane self.
So for believers the best proposal i could give them would be to embrace an act which has a continuous pain and relax cycle, so you can not only bring yourself to empathize with the ones less fortunate than you or bring yourself down to your knees pushing your self to the limit but also have a moment to reflect back, and find yourself remembering your Creator.
This is a humanly feeling that is embedded within all of us, if we search then we will surely find it within our selves too.
